BIO: I am, and have been, an intermediate teacher in School District 23 for five whole years. I continue to experiment and redefine technology’s role in our class. I present students with opportunities to learn and demonstrate their understanding using technology independently and collaboratively. I have found that peer tutoring and mentoring continue to be one of the most engaging and effective methods of process dissemination. Having said that, there are no defined boundaries to how we use technology in our class. We jump in with both feet and find out what works for us.
SESSION TITLE: Augmented Reality with Aurasma
Go beyond the gimmicks and gaming of Pokémon Go to create student-generated, augmented reality environments across the curriculum. In this session we will be learning how to use Aurasma. The “wow” factor hooks them but their desire to create quality, publicly viewed products ensures learning is at the heart of their work. Aurasma can be used as an extension or differentiation tool. Teachers can use Aurasma to assess student understanding. Students who find written output challenging can use Aurasma to verbally demonstrate their understanding. Students can also develop public speaking skills, review content knowledge or learn new information. Participants do not need to be the least bit tech-savvy to learn Aurasma. Participants need to bring an iPad. This session is open to all teachers from K-12.

BIO: Mellissa is a secondary English teacher at Mount Boucherie Secondary School in West Kelowna, BC. She has used Google Classroom with hundreds of students over the past year and is excited to share the power of the Google Apps platform with other teachers looking to increase digital literacy, collaboration, and creativity in their classrooms while also streamlining student assignments, assessment, and resources.

Dennis Kambeitz is the Direction of Education & Business Development for EZ-Robots, and is based out of Calgary. These two met and connected over EZ-Robots and their possibilities.
SESSION TITLE: Introducing EZ-Robots
In this session, participants will be provided with an overview of the future of the coding and robots industry, as well as its implications. Then, participants will be introduced to "JD" and have an opportunity to learn just how easy he can be to operate if you are willing to take the risk. Afterwards, some exemplars will be shared on how EZ-Robots can be integrated into various learning contexts. Take-a-way resources will also be provided.
JAN O'BRIEN & TRICIA JOHNSON
BIOS: Collaborative and innovative leader in post-secondary, committed to supporting organizational, employee, and student success. Solid accomplishments in administration, education, technology, human resources and marketing. Passion for continuous improvement. Jan O’Brien’s career in post-secondary education has spanned 20 years at three colleges in BC and Alberta. She has been an award winning faculty member in business education and worked in co-op education creating opportunities for students in technology programs. She has been an early adopter of business intelligence for education including organizational program review and planning dashboards. She also led the implementation of an innovative dashboard reporting system at a post-secondary system level for the BC Student Outcomes program giving the public interactive access to survey results on student satisfaction and labour market outcomes, providing better reporting for public exploration of data. She earned a Master of Science in Training and Human Resources Management from University of Leicester Centre for Labour Market Studies. Before working in post-secondary education, Jan was a channel marketer in the software industry in Vancouver. Her professional interests are in business intelligence, higher education, labour market intelligence and transitions, technology, marketing, and law.
SESSION TITLE: How BC Student Outcomes Helps Inform Career Planning
According to the Washington Post: "To graduate from a public high school in Chicago, students will soon have to meet a new and unusual requirement: They must show that they’ve secured a job or received a letter of acceptance to college, a trade apprenticeship, a gap year program or the military." The mayor of Chicago has declared, "We are going to help kids have a plan, because they’re going to need it to succeed.” But where will students get the information they need to make their plans? In BC, the BC Student Outcomes Program dashboard answers four pertinent questions about former post-secondary students: Who are they? What did they Learn? What did they say? and Are they working? The survey information is now available in a public, interactive dashboard, accessible to all audiences including students planning their careers and future. Students are able to compare the outcomes of students from programs and institutions, with the ability to download or print results. See how the information may be integrated into your classroom to add value to your student's career and life planning. The BC Student Outcomes Research Forum represents a long-standing partnership among the Ministry of Advanced Education, participating post-secondary institutions, and a number of system-wide organizations, including the Industry Training Authority, the BC Registrars' Association, and the BC Council on Admissions and Transfer.

SESSION TITLE: Communicating Student Learning with Google
This session will focus on how teachers can support meaningful, student-driven, communicating of student learning using GSuite (Google Apps for Education)
BIO: William Lewis is a Customer Relations Manager for Texthelp working out of their US headquarters in Massachusetts. He has spent the past four years consulting with school districts in the Western United States and Canada to help them achieve their student support objectives with Read&Write for Google Chrome and Texthelp’s latest Math/STEM product, EquatIO.
SESSION TITLE 1: Math and STEM in gSuite with EquatIO!
Creating digital math used to be a difficult process. It can be complicated to type and frustrating for students and teachers alike. We will focus on simplifying this process using EquatIO, enhancing ways students can respond to math and science problems digitally and collaboratively within Google's Gsuite. Math and science topics require computational thinking, but at heart the goal is to communicate their thought process and 'show their work'. Creating and communicating math and science digitally is an accessibility issue that we need to address now to prepare students for an increasingly digital world. This session will show teachers how to use EquatIO to create digital representations of their current work and inspire them to move forward into creating inspiring and innovative digital lessons backed with UDL principles allowing them to create and consume math in their preferred method.
SESSION TITLE 2: Google Learning Supports for All Students with Read&Write for Google Chrome
Over 9 million students and teachers are using Read&Write to independently read, write, and research on all devices from Chromebooks and desktop computers to iPads and Android devices. Read&Write is a literacy support tool that empowers all students to personalize their learning with simple, accessible tools that help them comprehend, organize, and express themselves independently in Gsuite, Office 365, Windows, Mac, iOS and Android platforms. This session will demonstrate the tools of the program, best practices for use in the classroom, and strategies for helping struggling students, ELL’s, and advanced students in search of productivity tools to increase their learning methods. All attendees will receive free full access to the program as well as assistance in getting the freemium and premium versions of the program for all of their students.
BIO: Andy is a former elite pole vaulter, once ranked as high as #1 in Canada! In teaching, Andy is working towards a more student-centred approach, involving flipped learning, standards-based grading, and mastery learning. Andy has previously presented at The Flipped Classroom Conference, the BCAMT conference, and various Langley School District conferences, on the topics of flipped learning, iPad use, and standards-based grading.
SESSION TITLE: Create Your Ideal Class with Mastery Learning
Could you imagine teaching a class in which all the students expected to achieve more than 50% for themselves? What if these students had become proficient in most if not all areas of the course at the previous grade level? How awesome would that be? I want to teach that class. Of course, there’s one problem… it doesn’t exist yet. Some students are promoted to the next grade level having achieved 50%, and sometimes less than that. Some students get a failing grade, but are given a “Standing Granted”. These students go on to the next grade level without having solid base of knowledge and skills at the previous grade level(s). Clearly this needs to change. My vision address these issues. It’s simple, it’s ambitious, and the implications are massive in terms of the potential to change the culture in classrooms. It’s for teachers to raise the bar from passing to mastery. Come join me if you believe that a focus on mastery can help create the ideal class. We’ll explore and share tools and strategies that can be effective in supporting mastery, such as the use of technology, flipped learning, standards-based grading and differentiation.
BIO: I am an intermediate teacher who is passionate about using technology to enhance student learning opportunities in the classroom setting. I have been using technology in the classroom for a number of years and I completed my Master in Educational Technology in December of 2015 through UBC Vancouver's MET Masters program. I am currently using technology in my classroom to differentiate my instruction and provide my students with a variety of means to learn and to demonstrate their learning beyond traditional mediums.
SESSION TITLE: Assistive Technologies in the Classroom: An Introduction to Texthelp's Read & Write Literacy Software
I plan on starting the session with a testimonial about my own experience with this software, which I have been using since November of 2016. I had a number of students with very low literacy skills who were all struggling to find access points into our learning. The Read & Write premium toolbar in combination with G-Suite, allowed me to not only differentiate my instruction, it also allowed these students to become independent learners in ways that had not previously been possible for them. It truly was a game changer. I plan on showing a few specific examples of the students' work to demonstrate the difference in the quality of work produced by my students through the use of this software. I also plan on sharing how my students of all ability levels made positive use of the toolbar as well. I will also share how I personally use the toolbar myself. It really has something to offer individuals of all ability levels.

BIO: Dr. Rosalind Warner is a member of Okanagan College’s Disruptive Innovation group. She has 20+ years of education experience as a Political Science professor, book editor, researcher, blogger, speaker, conference convener, department Chair, and community liaison.
SESSION TITLE: Disruptive Innovation in Education: Just Around the Corner or Over the Hill?
Disruptive innovation is a buzzword but it describes a rapidly-changing context of broad economic, social, political and technological innovations that affect all levels of education. In this session you will learn how to identify and think about potential disruptive innovations and what you can do about it in both the short term and the long term. This session will also introduce the Okanagan College Disruptors Group, a small group has been meeting since 2014 to describe, analyze and think about how disruptive innovation is affecting the functions of education everywhere.
BIO: Tracy has been a teacher in the Langley school district for the past 7 years and is new to the Okanagan. She has been using e-portfolios in the primary classroom for three years as a form of assessment and communicating student learning. Tracy believes that just because we teach little humans doesn't mean they can't do big things!
SESSION TITLE: FreshGrade in the Primary Classroom
This is a workshop for teachers who are interested in implementing ePortfolios into their classrooms. We will discuss digital portfolios in light of BC’s redesigned curriculum, assessment, and purpose. We will also cover the basics of using Freshgrade in a primary classroom, everyone attending will be set up to use FreshGrade in their classroom, all this in just one hour!
BIO: Karen has been a teacher in SD 67 for 11 years. After completing her Masters in Educational Technology from the University of Calgary in 2012, Karen has actively been pursuing ways to bring technology to the classroom and help teachers do the same. Karen teaches Digital Media Design and Development at Penticton Secondary School. She loves finding new and relevant ways to show students all that can be achieved through technology.
SESSION TITLE: Raspberry Pi for ABSOLUTE Beginners
Raspberry Pi's for ABSOLUTE beginners. This session is 95% hands on with teachers getting an opportunity to explore the workings of how Raspberry Pi works. Teachers will work at their own pace through some beginner lessons using Raspberry Pi. Some will complete 1 lesson, some will complete 5. But everyone will leave with the groundwork of what a Raspberry Pi is and how to use it. I have 10 Raspberry Pi's to bring to the session.
BIO: Stephanie has a Master of Educational Technology from UBC Vancouver. She has been using iPads with students for over five years. In 2015, she hosted a district-wide tech team camp in SD23 to encourage student leadership with iPads.
SESSION TITLE: Student Tech Teams
Student-led tech teams were originally modeled after Apple's genius bars. The idea is to leverage student knowledge of and experience with technology to help others who would benefit from it. This workshop will focus on my tech team framework which releases older students on Friday afternoons to teach younger students how to use iPads. The classroom teacher is initially an observer. The goal is that he/she will eventually feel comfortable using iPads in his/her class after seeing how it is taught by the team.
BIO: Dr. Bowen Hui is an instructor in Computer Science at UBC Okanagan. She teaches a variety of courses, including digital citizenship, computer programming, human-computer interaction, learning analytics, and mobile educational game development. Bowen works closely with students to develop smart educational technologies to improve student's learning experience.
SESSION TITLE: Beyond The Hour of Code - What's Next?
Many teachers are using various online resources, such as the hour of code, to introduce coding to young students. In this session, the goal is to help educators identify online resources and understand what skills are needed/acquired by the end of those resources. A roadmap that outlines some example resources will be presented.
BIO: Corina Summerfelt teaches Core French in Vernon, B.C. to grade 8-12. In this role, she has spent a significant amount of time trying to discover how to empower students to be able to advocate for their own learning needs. As part of this, Corina also works with grade eights as they transition into high school to develop core competencies, and an e-portfolio, to begin documenting their high school learning journey. Corina loves technology but prides herself on exploring meaningful applications for the classroom. Corina is enthusiastic and dedicated to increasing student personal sense of achievement and ability.

BCLearningNetwork.com is an organization that provides online resources (aligned with the new curriculum) for BC districts. This session is about accessing these resources, using Moodle, and discussing how all this might help you develop your Blended Learning classroom.
BIO: Robert Campbell teaches digital learning and media arts at UBC Okanagan. His research focuses upon innovative learning environments, media design and development, and the cultural effects of new technologies. In addition to secondary school teaching experience, he has worked in the private sector as an art director, software developer, and instructional systems designer. His doctoral studies, completed at the University of Toronto, examined the infusion of computer technology in the arts and arts education. Currently, he is an associate professor at UBC Okanagan. He was the first dean of the UBC Okanagan Faculty of Education serving from 2005-2010.
SESSION TITLE: Creative Coding: Innovative Platforms for Computer Studies
“Creative coding” is described as a broad field of technology arts in which coding is done for expression rather than function. This type of coding can provide a doorway into computer studies through the arts, and can be an effective way to support computational thinking and information communications technology in school classrooms. This presentation reviews the literature and resources, and examines the programs and possibilities of implementing creative coding in upper elementary, middle, and secondary curricula. Creative coding genres are discussed. Additionally, coding languages and programming platforms are presented with particular focus on Processing3, a free and easily accessed development environment created specifically for artists and designers.
BIO: Corinne McWhinney is currently working as a Technology Innovation Coordinator with School District 22, Vernon. She has been teaching in Vernon for 22 years in various roles such as teacher-librarian, vice-principal, Computer Resource Teacher, and has taught K-12.
SESSION TITLE: Design Thinking with Sphero Spark
Design, build and test a contraption for a Sphero Robot to carry a load from one target to another. This is a hands on workshop that will guide you through the design thinking process that supports the ADST curriculum. Learn to code a Sphero Robot and design your own Sphero driven vehicle.

SESSION TITLE: Going Google in your School
This session will focus on how schools and district leaders can leverage the power of Google Apps in their everyday practice. G-Suite (formerly known as Google Apps for Education – GAFE), offers a collection of free productivity tools that leaders can leverage to enhance collaboration, creativity, and productivity in their schools and across the district. We will provide an overview on the various tools within G-Suite, as well as provide examples on how others are using these tools in their current practice.

BIOS: Janet Williams and Lindsey Hamilton are both administrators in School District 23. They are passionate about meaningful technology integration and are always looking for ways to improve teaching and learning for their students.
SESSION TITLE: Thinkering: Making Meaning
In this hands on session, participants will explore the ADST curriculum through "Maker Spaces." Come prepared to play and learn with various "maker" items and tech toys. In this one hour session, you will walk away with concrete examples of how to integrate this concept in to your classroom or school.
BIO: I am an STEM Consultant for SD23. I have spent much of my learning around design thinking as a pedagogy. Currently focused on supporting classroom teachers with the integration of ADST across the curricular areas. Supporting classroom teachers to incorporate technology a tool to deepen student learning when appropriate. I am a Google Level 1 and Level 2 Certified Educator.
SESSION TITLE 1: Why the “D” in ADST?
Dive into into the “WHY” of the new ADST curriculum. This session will focus on the integration of Design Thinking and ADST across curricular areas. Why ADST shouldn’t be thought of as a stand alone curriculum and instead embraced by teachers as a pedagogy to develop students’ curricular and core competencies.

BIO: Brendan Robertson is a Technology Innovation Coordinator and French Language Programs Coordinator. He has been working in Technology and French Immersion for over 20 years. As an avid cyclist and Fencing Master he brings diversity to the classroom.
SESSION TITLE: Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality in the Classroom
Do you want to see what it is like on Mars? Do you want to go under the sea around the Galapagos Islands? Do you want to know what it is like for Syrian refugees in Lebanon? Or maybe you want to enter the magical world of Harry Potter, where the school is lined with interactive paintings. All of this is possible through Virtual Reality (VR) field trips and Augmented Reality (AR) projects. Join this session to see how you can take your class all over the world and beyond with VR field trips—or even create your own to share with others. This session will also introduce you to AR to create interactive learning environments for and with your students. AR allows students and teachers to create layers of digital information on top of the physical world that can be viewed through tablets and iPods.
VR and AR allows us to redefine our learning spaces—come out and check out these fantastic new innovative tools.
BIO: I have worked a ton with Freshgrade, Explain Everything, and GAFE applications in class. I have also worked extensively with Green Screen productions in the class and would be willing to help out in a variety of ways.

SESSION TITLE 2: "What sucks?"
Come join a session that, like the name, is a little different. "What sucks?" is a staple session at EdCamps across the globe as Educators discuss, debate, and get passionate about controversial hot topic issues in education. You won't be disappointed!
BIO: I have been teaching Social Studies at the middle and high school levels for 13 years in School District 23. I have a degree in Human Geography and a Masters degree in Educational Technology, where I completed my main project on the use of video games in the classroom. I used the game Sid Meier's Civilization to teach Social Studies for 5 years and am currently adapting it and others games for both middle and senior grades.
In this session we will discuss the value of using video games in the classroom and the successes that I have seen in my own students'. Although many of us have feelings associated with video games for children, I will introduce the session by discussing some of the research supporting the use of video game-based instruction. I will also share strategies and tools that I used, talk about personal experiences and the evolution of my own unit planning, and discuss how one might choose to structure lesson planning to suit different games and classrooms. We will also have a chance to discuss challenges associated with video game-based instruction and collectively brain-storm solutions. This session will focus on Sid Meier's video game Civilization, which is a commercial video game where students have an opportunity to be in control of all the aspects of building an empire. It encompasses exploration, political and technological advances, relations with other countries and much more. We will look at how to us video games as a tool in the classroom and, although my experience is using this in a social studies setting, we will discuss how it can be used in cross-curricular situations.
MARK HAUK & MERLE ROSS
BIOS: Mark is a teacher and Virtual Field Trip (VFT) Coordinator for School District 23 (Central Okanagan). He is passionate about educational technology, has been teaching at the secondary level for more than 20 years, and has run the VFT program for the last five years.
Merle is a SD23 media technologist who specializes in video production, video conferencing, and general technical wizardry. Merle has been an integral part of VFT program since its inception.
SESSION TITLE: Virtual Field Trips
SD23 Virtual Field Trips connects our students to live interactive video conferences with scientists, authors, explorers, adventurers, and many more. We have spoken to astronauts live on the International Space Station, participated in live forensic autopsies, talked to scuba divers as they swam with sharks on Australia's Great Barrier Reef, spoken to WWII Holocaust survivors, and participated in live dinosaur digs in Utah and New Mexico (just to name a few!). In this session we'll demonstrate how easy it can be to host world-class sessions for your own students at little to no cost.
BIO: Megan Lee has been teaching for 18 years. She has taught grades 1-7 and is currently settled and happy teaching grade 3 at Hillview Elem.in Vernon, BC. Here she lives with her husband and 2 boys, 10 and 7, who each bring joy and endless bathroom jokes to her life. She spends the non-teaching part of her life enjoying family time and hobbies that include activities like volleyball, baseball, bike rides, hikes, camping and vacations. Megan loves a great chai tea, good friends, cheesey jokes and life-long learning.
SESSION TITLE: Technology, Buddies, Learning….Oh My!
This session is about taking a leap with technology and trying something new with your class. Over the 2016/17 school year Megan began a journey to have her grade 3 students create simple games using Scratch that could be used to teach her kindergarten buddy class different literacy and numeracy skills. Megan took a huge risk with this project because in the beginning she had no idea about how to work with Scratch let alone create a program with it. Come join Megan and discover some of the beautiful unexpected results of her journey and the ways this experience positively impacted her class and others. In Megan's words, " If I can do this, anyone can!".
BIO: Michael Haworth has been District Vice-Principal (Technology) in Revelstoke for nearly 4 years. Previously, he was a teacher in Chilliwack for 16 Years. Elementary, Middle, and Secondary level focused primarily on Information Technology, online distance education, and technology helping teacher roles. He was fortunate to be a Prime Minister's Award of Teaching Excellence recipient. A large component of his work is focused on the use of technology to extend and expand to learning and teaching opportunities of students and teachers. Technology in its many forms including desktop computers, laptops, mobile tablets, and the range of other technology devices and systems are a vehicle for learning, creating, communicating, and expressing.
SESSION TITLE: Introduction to Scratch / Scratch Jr. Coding
Learn about the basics of Scratch and Scratch Jr. coding. These two coding tools based on the Scratch website and the Scratch Jr. coding app for tablets provides student with a powerful, yet extremely fun way to learn about coding. With many resources available online, this hands-on introduction will demonstrate some basic coding techniques and projects to work with students at the primary, intermediate, and middle school levels. Participants will create Scratch and Scratch Jr. projects that demonstrate concepts such as loops, variables, user input, and more during this session.
BIO: John has the privilege of working with educators across Central Okanagan Public Schools to support meaningful integration of technology. The evolution of mobile technologies and cloud-based computing, among other advancements, is changing the landscape for today's educators. John aims to support teachers with their own professional learning and inspire innovation for modern learning environments.
SESSION TITLE 1: Hot or Not? Cell Phones in Schools
Teens today are connected. That's obvious. Snap. Text. Tweet and so it goes. Personal cell phones are nearly ubiquitous with students in middle and secondary schools and the introduction of those technologies have significantly altered our school environments. Some educators welcome cellphones and personal devices to their classrooms and they attempt to leverage the technology in meaningful ways. Others, however, consider cell phones a distraction to learning and consequently, exclude them from their learning environment. Other teachers sit somewhere in the middle. Where do you stand? This session aims to facilitate a meaningful conversation and open-mindedness about the topic, so teachers can make their own decisions for their practice. This session is designed to be interactive so please be prepared to participate with the group.
SESSION TITLE 2: Exploring Coding with Micro:bit
This is a hands-on, playground session to explore coding with Micro:bits. Participants will be introduced to www.microbit.org and the freely available teaching and learning resources. The vast majority of the session time will be dedicated to hands-on coding time with the online platform and the micro:bit device. Please bring a laptop/tablet device.
BIO: As the current District Principal of Learning Technology in SD23, Jordan works collaboratively with many hardworking and talented colleagues as we create and foster a digital learning culture in our district. Together we promote an environment of professional learning and innovation as we create and build a shared vision for the meaningful integration of technology in our schools.
SESSION TITLE 1: iMovie: A Powerful and Versatile App for Your Classroom
iMovie is a powerful, versatile, and free iPad app that can be used in so many different ways to impact student learning. This session will provide you with ideas and examples on several ways that you can have your students use this app to make their thinking visible, to document and communicate their learning, to help them focusing on process over product, to help them demonstrate growth over time, and much, much more!

BIO: Recently trained as a Climate Reality Leader by Al Gore, Michael is pursuing solutions to climate change and decarbonizing our economy. He is a co-creator of The Innovation Generation Challenge to help student build capacity in solutions for their generation. Students learn design thinking, problem solving and entrepreneurial thinking and are networked with local businesses and organizations to make real relationships.
SESSION TITLE: Innovative Solutions to Climate Change
We will look at climate change realities and exciting and hopeful solutions. Discussion around why we need to innovate and how best to make use of our responsibilities as educators. Resources from Climate Reality will be shared and possible collaborations will be explored.
BIO: Josh is has been working as a Technology Innovation Coordinator for School District #22 for the past four years. During that time, he has watched his role evolve from a technology support person into a being a part of a strong technology team that has been integral in many of the district technology innovations. He has been a passionate contributor to the SD #22 Mobile Maker Space and continues to find new and unique ways to support students, teachers, and administrators as they strive to enhance educational goals with technology.
SESSION TITLE: Flying through the ADST with Drones
Parrot has a new branch called Parrot Education where they have designed drones for use in the classroom. A partnership with Apple Swift Playgrounds has enabled students to make connections to coding commands and flying a drone. The drones offer an astonishing new aerial perspective with countless applications that cut across disciplines, including science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), as well as film, media, and journalism. Come join us as we explore the use of drones in the classroom and see how they might fit into your educational context.

BIOS: David is former teacher, father of two, lifelong educator, and education technology specialist. Presently consulting with educators and administrators across Canada as they strive to simplify, modernize, and make the process of engagement and communicating learning much more relevant and meaningful.
Scott has been a middle school teacher in SD23 – Central Okanagan for 11 years. His love for assessment, digital portfolios and communicating student learning has led to his passion for sharing how Fresh Grade has helped his teaching practice and his student's learning.

YIK WAH PENNER
BIO: My teaching career first began in 2011, upon finishing my Bachelors of Education program at the University of British Columbia. Over the past 6 years, I have had the privilege of teaching secondary students in Vancouver and Singapore, but the majority of my teaching experience has been with teaching grade 8 at a middle school in Richmond, B.C. It was through this experience that I gained a profound appreciation for the middle school model, and saw how collaboration, project-based learning and inquiry-based learning could truly transform learning experiences for students. Furthermore, it was through my experience teaching grade 8, that I began to see how students gravitated towards using various forms of technology to express their learning. It was this observation that inspired me to complete my Masters of Educational Technology through the University of British Columbia, as I sought to investigate how technology could further support and augment learning experiences for students.
SESSION TITLE 1: UDL, Chromebooks, and the Elementary Classroom
Have you ever wondered how to make your lessons more engaging and accessible? The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is an approach to curriculum design that improves access for all students. For the first portion of this workshop, we’ll consider the main principles of UDL and investigate how they can be applied to you, as an elementary school teacher. After a general review of UDL principles, we will focus on how to use Chromebooks as a tool to bring about greater student engagement through the unlocking students’ creative capacities, using tools available on the Chromebooks. If you have a Chromebook, don’t’ forget to bring it!
SESSION TITLE 2: UDL, Chromebooks and the Secondary Classroom
Have you ever been bored of your own lessons? Have you ever wondered how you might change up your content delivery? This workshop will investigate how the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) can apply to your teaching practice as a secondary school teacher. This session will focus primarily on how to apply the principles of UDL (multiple means of engagement, representation, and expression) can be supported using technologies like Chromebooks, to create inclusive and engaging classroom environments. If you have your own Chromebook, please bring it!

BIO: Steve’s 30 years of teaching has been an incredible journey, including stops in elementary, middle, and high school. Steve feels that students are searching for a relevant school experience more than ever and feels that ADST just might be one of those avenues.Steve currently teaches Grade 4 in Penticton, and his Masters (Ed.) in Numeracy from SFU was vital to his growth as an educator.
SESSION TITLE: ADST Curriculum in Elementary (K-5)
How do I get started with this new curriculum? My Administrator is talking about “unplugged” learning - what?!? I have to teach coding? These are just a few questions that seem to be asked A LOT whenever ADST is mentioned. This session will put the participant in the role of both the teacher and the learner through various activities and discussions. Participants will leave the session having an understanding of the articulated nature of the K-9 ADST curriculum, and have some ideas that they can try in their classrooms.

This session is for teachers looking to discover the potential of using the portal with your students as well as a communication tool with parents.
